LANE, Edward George
(IBM retiree) P.E.
March 21, 1938 - July 29, 2017
Ed of Regina, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully with his beloved wife of over 50 years, Irene, and his two daughters by his side in South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. Loving father of Deanna and Andrea, father-in-law to Kent and Brent. Proud grandpa of Kayla, Hayden, Lane and Nohle. Beloved uncle and friend to many. Ed spent over 25 years of retirement in his favourite place North Bay on Lake Muskoka when he wasn't walking the sand beaches in Florida. Summers in Muskoka consisted of boating, cocktails on the raft, canoeing, socializing with friends and family, with the odd seadoo or ski thrown in for good measure. He was known for his sharp intellect, generosity, warm smile and zest for life. Ed was a jokester who enjoyed playing pranks on people and sharing jokes, with a smile on his face and his infectious laugh. In his younger years he was an avid hockey player, playing on his University team, and was also a champion skeet shooter. Ed enjoyed snowmobiling, water sports and NASCAR. He was always up for an adventure, often rallying others to join him. He loved entertaining friends and family at his home in Muskoka, taking them boating and teaching them how to waterski. His engineering degree was put to good use whether he was designing a dock, sauna or analyzing the latest Consumer Reports to share with his son-in-laws. Lovingly remembered by his family in Saskatchewan and friends. As per Ed's wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be at Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre in Gravenhurst Wharf (275 Steamship Bay Road) on Saturday September 30, 2017 from 1-4 p.m.
Memorial donations in Ed's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stoke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A life well lived, surrounded by love, family and good friends.

Mr Lane (aka Pa Lane in my world), From the first weekend I met you when I was 16 and you walked around the cottage cabin in your underwear and didn't understand why I was a bit uncomfortable with this ~ to teaching me how to water ski, taking me on day long snowmobile rides and driving the boat as crazy as you could to launch us in the air from the tube and cheese eggs of course ~ you were someone special to many people. Many of us have fond memories of you and how you treated everyone with such a kind heart and of the smile that never seemed to leave your face. Thanks for cheering me on at the Henry swim meets! For trying to teach me how to water ski! And for letting me be a part of your family for 30 years. Rest in peace. You will be missed! Hugs to the Lane's ♥

I just recently learned of Ed's passing (we don't have iPhones or WiFi at our cottage) with a profound sense of loss. I worked with Ed at IBM, where Ed made it extra worthwhile to come into the office. No matter what the situation, Ed was always contagiously 'up', laughing and joking and pulling the odd prank. But what I remember most is his love for his family. Ed regularly mentioned his beloved Irene and his two girls. Wonderful memories and a deep loss.

I was so sad to hear that my cousin Ed recently passed away. He was a wonderful man always smiling and laughing and loved life. I have such fond memories of him. One in particular, many years ago he drove out west to Regina with Irene for her to meet his parents and mine in his shiny blue convertible. This is back in the sixties and of course I had never ridden in one and felt like a princess. He always made every one feel at ease. My deepest condolences go out to the love of his life Irene and his two daughters and their families. Rest in Peace Ed. xo
