BROADBENT (NEE PEARSON), Florence "Evelyn"

Passed away peacefully at Wynfield LTC Residence on Saturday October 20th, 2018, with family by her side, two days after her 94th birthday. Predeceased by William 'Bill' M. Broadbent, who passed away in 1992, after almost 44 years of a wonderful marriage. Much loved mother of Bill Broadbent (Lucy), Bob Broadbent (Sandra English), and Sue Hogan (Barry). Proud grandmother of Pat, Heather, Julie, Laura, Krista, Ryan, Braden and Connor, and proud great-grandmother of Christian, Rachel, Hartlee and Isaac. Loving sister of Joan M. Aldred of Port Perry. Evelyn will also be remembered by her extended family of in-laws and partners, nephews and nieces, and her many friends from Leslie St. and Traditions Retirement Residence. Evelyn grew up in Oshawa, was a “gold cord” Girl Guide, attended O’Neill Collegiate, and graduated as a nurse from the Oshawa General Hospital in 1946. She had a strong faith, and was an active member of Christ Memorial Church, and then St. George’s Memorial Church. Evelyn was a kind, positive, “fun”, intelligent, inspiring person who truly loved her family and friends. Over her lifetime she was a “good sport”, who enjoyed travel, music, reading, her church groups, and her sewing and bridge clubs. Evelyn had a ready laugh, she found beauty and joy in everyday life, and she had the unique gift of making all the people in her life feel special. Relatives and friends will be received at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD. on Saturday November 10th, 2018, from 2:00 pm until time of celebration of life in the funeral home chapel at 3:00 pm. If desired, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeridge Health Oshawa or St. George’s Memorial Anglican Church. Online condolences can be shared at

Eve Broadbent will need no training to become an angel in heaven. She was the most beautiful possible person here on earth. Her presence brightened any gathering and her sunny disposition was second to none. My deep sympathy is extended to the Broadbent family as they deal with the loss of this dear lady. The heavens will be glowing with a new, bright star, and the heavenly choirs will rejoice with the addition of a beautiful soul to its ranks. We were so fortunate to have known her while she was with us here. Ashton

We have known Evelyn for many years..firstly at Christ Church and then at St. George's. She and Ruth's sister Joan both graduated as nurses, from Oshawa General Hospital. Throughout the past years we have enjoyed her wit, her candour, her work ethic, as a volunteer, and her infectious laugh. I often called her Mrs. B. and she always chided me but I am sure she enjoyed the teasing and banter involved in our friendship.
May the soul of Evelyn, departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon her.

On every occasion, she left us feeling as though she always had both a keen interest and the most wonderful time in the company of her son and the people he cared to spend time with.

    Dear Bill, Bob & Sue,
My deepest sympathy on your mom's passing. Heather reached out to me to let me know.
I'd fallen out of touch with her over the years, but have great memories of spending time with her and your dad Bill. Seeing Eve's picture, her laugh and her smile came immediately to mind. Wherever Eve was, the sun was shining!
I wish I could be there today, but I will definitely be thinking of her,
