So sorry to hear of Mme Hartshorn’s passing. She was a wonderful teacher to my children who attended Southwood and will never be forgotten . Both my children went on in life to have careers linked to their ability to speak French.

I hadn't picked up a paper in years so the odds of me happening by her obituary were as slim as can be. She was my first teacher, for 2 years - Kindergarden & Grade one (1987 & '88). I hadn't put much thought into how she affected my life because at that age when things go right their significance doesn't stand out. When someone is setting the bar it takes more experience to see just how high it was set. In retrospect, here's what I remember - what she gave me and I kept with me: -en francais: "a, e, i, o, u, et parfois, y." Mon Francais, ces't pal mal bon, et ca vient d'elle. -I am in intelligent person. I should be confident in it - it's my strength. So use it, and use it wisely. -and, she loved us. I see today that I may not ever fully understand just how lucky I was to have her as my first educator. I grateful for the opportunity to have this cry. Merci. Je t'aime.
