    To Judy and family.
Don was truly "the heart" of St. Matthews but more than that he did so many other volunteer deeds. He quietly got on with things like meals on wheels and so much pastoral care to parishioners.
He showed his faith in his deeds and worked on studying and understanding his beliefs. He had a life well lived but sadly it never seems long enough.
    Please accept our sincere sympathy.
    In friendship,
    Eileen and Ray Mainwaring

    Dear Judy, Chris & Family,
We are very saddened to hear the news about the passing of Don. As a life long member of St. Matthew's, I grew up knowing Don and was very fond of his good natured demeanor.
Don was truly an inspiration and I always looked forward to hearing him speak at St. Matthew's every Sunday. I served as an alter boy with his son Chris and I'll always remember the sincere conversations that Don and I shared after a service.
His excitement when we talked about cruising or seeing a live performance at the Regent Concert Theater will resonate with me forever.
May you take comfort in knowing that Don was loved and admired by many, especially me.
We are praying for you and your family in these difficult times.

    Judy and family,
My sincere condolences on Don’s passing. I met Don when he was a member of the Local Advisory Committee for the Oshawa office of Community Care Durham. He was such a gentle, compassionate volunteer whom others respected and admired. I could always count on Don to get things done and be the first to volunteer for any task that would help others. I trust he is now resting in peace with God’s arms around him. Well done thou good and faithful servant.

Words can't express how saddened we are to hear of the passing of Don. I first met Don almost 20 years ago when volunteering at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Spirit and Religious Care program and it seemed wherever I went Don was there… community care, palliative care, cancer care, Education for Ministry, Lay Reader trainings, Lay Anointer trainings… the list goes on. Whenever our paths crossed, he always had a big smile on his face, a kind word, a big hug and a prayer.
He always told me what a wonderful community St. Matthew’s was and when was I going to join the parish! I finally did and over the years, especially the past few months, we have had amazing conversations that I will cherish as a gift from God.
Don was loved by so many people and so many communities he touched with his love and service. Sending healing prayers and comforting hugs to all
    who love and mourn.
Don may your rest in peace and rise in glory.

    Dear Judy and family,
I am shocked by the news of Don's death. He was so strong in his faith and in his love for you - his family. Don always had a big smile, but that smile got bigger and brighter when speaking of his family. Don's other love was his church, St. Matthew's was a huge part of his life. He was a great help to me and so many. Don also gave of himself at Lakeridge Hospital with his visiting and when leading worship.
Don will be missed but not forgotten.
Well done good and faithful servant. Rest in God's love.
    Rev. Margaret

Saddened to hear indeed, I remember a couple years back when I was quite sick that Bro Stew suggested I call Don as I was seeking some additional spiritual advise in my own spiritual quest walk and journey in life. Long and short was I called Don and poof b4 you knew it he was at our door in Wilmot Creek ready willing and able to support listen pray and make a few suggestions and simply be a friend. In our talking he mentioned he quite liked our community and perhaps if the time ever arose for he and Judy to move seeing such beauty and community here, he mentioned this may just be the place to consider. So in reading he and Judy were set to move here (Wilmot Creek) was like a wow, an blessing indeed. Had many of conversations with Don having met him through taking EFM, great guy I was drawn to and loved his down to earth spiritual spunk and foundation, his mission and walk with the Creator and actions that supported 100 percent his walk to go with his talks. So easy and comfortable to just simply chat with, pick up a phone and call, and so very diverse in his years of experiences and works that he and I related well on, always having awesome talks. He without doubt is remembered treasured and for me a gift privilege and honor to have had in my journey. My thoughts and prayers for Judy and the kids and all who have had the privilege to have their lives touched by Don (countless) will for always remain in thought and prayers. My heartfelt condolences to all

    Dear Judy & family,
I am truly shocked and saddened by Don's passing. His presence, smile & those wonderful hugs were felt and known by all at St. Matthew's. On Palm Sunday in 2013 my daughter Susan and I along with my granddaughters Amelia and Lilianna walked in to St. Matthew's in search of a parish to call home. During communion Don noticed that I remained in the pew. After the service he introduced himself & once he discovered that we were East Coasters there was an instant connection. He also noticed that I walked with a cane & quickly discovered that due to severe food allergies I required GF Host. He promised that he would look into accommodating my needs and he was a man of his word. I will be forever grateful to this wonderful kind, loving and caring man for welcoming me and my family to the St. Matthew's family. Rest in peace my dear friend and to your dear family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Michele Hogg & family.
