SMITH, Gordon Woodburn

Gordon Woodburn Smith of Oshawa passed away December 24, 2021, at the age of 75, after a brave and courageous five-year battle with cancer.  Gordon was born in Jedburgh Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1967, where he met his beloved wife, Diane (née Dafoe). Diane and Gordon were married for 52 years and had two children, Scott (Sandra) and Heather. Gordon was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Erica, Natasha, Andrew, Molly and Julie. Following in his father's footsteps, Gordon was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 56 years.  Gordon began his Masonic Career in Lodge #104, Jedburgh, Scotland. He was a member of Lebanon Lodge A.F. and A.M. #139 Oshawa for 41 years and secretary for more than 25 years. In 1996 Gordon was proud to become a Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Canada.  A private family memorial service will be held at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558).  A wider Celebration of Life and a Masonic service will be held for Gordon at a later date when restrictions allow.  Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Muscular Dystrophy would be appreciated.  Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com.

Ron DeMerchant, Secretary, Hope Lodge No.114
Many of us keep fond memories of Gord within the masonic district.
He was not just a warm and jovial brother mason beneath what appeared to be a gruff exterior, he was also knowledgeable and scholarly with respect to District history, Grand Lodge Constitution, masonic Etiquette and Protocol.
As a result of his storehouse knowledge and experience both his guidance and his compliments for lodge work well done were gold.
I rarely remember Gord not being in attendance at a district function or official visit and his presence, encouragement, warm smile and warmer handshake will be greatly missed by all of us.
Both personally and on behalf of the members of Hope Lodge No. 114 in Port Hope I extend our deepest condolences on the passing of a dear brother and friend.
