THORNLEY, Dianne

Marie Dianne Thornley (née Savoie) passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2023, at the age of 76 after a short battle with cancer. Fred, her husband of 43 years, predeceased her 12 years to the day. She is survived by her daughters, Kristine (Doug) and Michelle (Glyn), and 4 grandchildren: Natasha, Rod, Max, and Zack. She was a dear sister to Cora and Albert. She leaves behind many friends in Oshawa, at the Oshawa Senior Centre, and in Largo, Florida.  Dianne was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, on November 23, 1946, to Phoebe and Arthur Savoie. The family moved to Oshawa when she was young, where she lived the rest of her life (except for winters in Largo for the past 20 years). She graduated from the University of Toronto and worked as a physiotherapist at Oshawa General Hospital (now Lakeridge Health) for over 30 years. She was active her entire life—she played volleyball for UofT and was still playing on a seniors’ team until last year.  Instead of a funeral—and to avoid her friends having to come home from Florida—Diane has requested that a memorial service be held in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dianne’s name to Lakeridge Health Foundation; Cancer Care and raising a toast to her memory.  Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com
